2017 Distinguished Older Athenian Award

During the month of May 2017, ACCA will join others across the nation in celebrating Older Americans Month and the contributions of older adults to our communities. This year’s theme, “Age Out Loud,” gives aging a new voice by showing the changing face of aging today. “More than ever before, older Americans are working longer, trying new things, and engaging in their communities. They’re taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on independence, and advocating for themselves and others,” says the Administration for Community Living. Older Americans Month highlights how older adults in our community are leading and inspiring others and how we might follow their examples by amplifying our own voices.

In 2016, we established the ACCA Distinguished Older Athenian Award. This annual award recognizes an outstanding Athenian who is:
• 60 or older, and
• has rendered service on a community, state or federal level, and
• is recognized as a role model for positive aging, or
• has made a significant contribution to our community through professional, charitable or volunteer efforts.
