IT’S THE DANCE PARTY OF THE YEAR!!
You know you want to. Let’s do it all again!
Let’s go to back again to our totally rad, totally awesome PROM!
Whether you graduated high school in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s or even beyond the millennium, the music of the South’s greatest dance band, THE HIGHBALLS will have those feet tappin’ and the body swayin’ to the tunes and memories!
The retroProm is our largest fundraising event of the year. All revenues that we make from the Prom benefit so many local older adults in the areas of Health and Wellness, Meals and Caregiver Support. On a daily basis, seniors deal with Social Isolation, Hunger, lack of Employment Opportunities and Skills, access to Good Healthcare, and dependable Transportation to doctor appointments, grocery store or pharmacy. ACCA offers 14 programs and services to support these issues for seniors and their caregivers.
Congratulations to the 2018 retroProm King and Queen, David Walton and Kate Cook!
David, Kate, and fellow court members, Mark Bell, Mike Leggett, Frances Gibson, and Laura Leiden raised a staggering $41,001!
Overall, the event raised $55,885!!!
Thank you to everyone who made this night such a success.
Countless current clients as well as those on the waiting lists for our services will be impacted by your support!
As Athens begins to make plans to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends, the Athens Community Council on Aging and the Campus Kitchen at UGA want to ensure that no senior is left out of this holiday tradition.
We are asking the community for financial donations to be used to purchase uncooked turkeys that will be distributed to 200 senior households and prepared meals for more than 100 individuals. Additionally, we provide with the frozen Tom Turkey a grocery bag full of the supplies to complete a true Thanksgiving dinner for the family.
With your generous support, we can provide older adults an opportunity to gather around the table with their families for a day of thanks. We offer a variety of options to make your donation – mailing or dropping by our offices with cash or check, use the Donate button year-round on this page and select Turkeypalooza in the dropdown box for credit card gifts, or join us on our crowd-funding on-line campaign through Razoo in early November.
Dates for Turkeypalooza crowd-funding and deliveries will be posted soon!
Be a Santa to a Senior
In partnership with Home Instead, Athens Community Council on Aging identifies seniors in the community to provide gifts to those who might not receive a gift during this holiday season.
Gift tags in the shape of an ornament are distributed to several businesses throughout the community who have joined forces with this event. The public is welcomed to take an ornament that has the senior’s list of items and sizes, and fulfill their wishes! It’s like playing Santa for someone you don’t know!
On the first Monday afternoon in December, we have a HUGE gift wrapping party where dozens of Volunteers don their Elf hats and wrap the gifts in festive paper while Christmas tunes play in the background. If you are having a tough time getting into the Holiday Spirit, this is the place to be!
For event details, and volunteer opportunities, please check back in the early Fall on this webpage.
March for Meals 5K
Each year, the entire month of March is designated as March for Meals! Sponsored nationally by Meals on Wheels America and locally by Athens Community Council on Aging, the month is celebrated with a variety of opportunities to learn more about and experience the efforts at filling the plates of the older adults within our own community who are homebound or without the resources to prepare a healthy meal for themselves.
The month culminates with our March for Meals 5K on the last Saturday morning of March. Runners and walkers enjoy the early morning jaunt through some of Athens’ most beautiful streets at the height of early Spring!
