Harvest Festival

The 38th Annual Harvest Festival, sponsored by ACC Leisure Services’ Lyndon House Arts Center and the Athens Community Council on Aging’s RSVP Program, will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Lyndon House and Lay Park on Hoyt Street in Athens.  For nearly four decades, the Harvest Festival has provided a hands-on learning experience and an opportunity for inter-generational sharing of local history, traditions, domestic skills, and crafts of the 19th century.  Immerse yourself in history through interactive demonstrations such as weaving, broom-making, butter-churning, quilting, corn husk dolls, soap-making, pottery, and much more.

There is NO entry fee for the festival and all activities are FREE.  Light concessions and souvenirs will be available for purchase.

This local tradition is primarily a field trip for elementary students in Northeast Georgia (accompanying lesson plans that meet Georgia Performance Standards are available), but is also open to the public.  Groups of 10 or more must register using the form below.  For more information, please contact Emory Griffith, Senior Corps Volunteer Coordinator, at 706-549-4850 or egriffith@accaging.org.

Spots are limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis, so classrooms are encouraged to sign up early!  We hope to see you at this year’s Harvest Festival!
