An internship with ACCA will give you the practical knowledge and skills that complement and complete your academic experience.  ACCA internships include training specific to your placement, as well as broader training on topics related to aging, professional development, and non-profit management. We invite you to join our team of dedicated professionals working to ensure older adults in our area have all they need to Age Well and Live Well.

We have opportunities suitable to students with a variety of academic backgrounds, and we’re proud to have hosted students for internships and field placements from The University of Georgia, The Augusta University/University of Georgia Medical Partnership, Piedmont College, Athens Technical College, and many others. We can work with you to offer the experience and hours needed for your individual program requirements.


Internship Timeline and Application Process

All potential internship opportunities posted below. Applications are accepted at any time, and students are encouraged to apply well in advance of the listed deadline. Please note that some in

ternships have a volunteer prerequisite that should be in progress or completed prior to the application deadline.

  • Fall term application deadline: April 24th
  • Spring term application deadline: October 25th
  • Summer term application deadline: February 26th

All potential interns will receive confirmation that their application was received, and those who are a good match for their desired placement will be contacted to interview with an ACCA staff member.


Adult Day Health Internship

ACCA’s Adult Day Health programs provide supportive services for adults with cognitive and physical impairments. Daily health and wellness activities create an engaging and meaningful experience for clients in a safe and supportive environment. Interns will gain experience with assessing client needs and assisting in the development and implementation of therapeutic activities.

AmeriCorps Seniors Intern

Do you have a passion for service? Would you like to work with older adults that share your passion? The AmeriCorps Senior programs at ACCA engage adults age 55 and up in meaningful opportunities to give back to the community. You’ll gain experience in program evaluation, health education programming, and volunteer management.

Center for Active Living Internship

The Center for Active Living (CAL) is a wellness center dedicated to keeping older adults active, independent and thriving. CAL offers exciting opportunities to learn, connect, explore, and contribute to community life. The CAL intern assists with the planning, implementation, and evaluation wellness, nutrition and social programming. Health Promotion and Behavior major preferred.

GeorgiaCares

GeorgiaCares is a private-public partnership sponsored by the Department of Human Services, the Division of Aging Services, and the Area Agencies on Aging that provides no cost benefit counseling for older adults. Interns will gain extensive knowledge of Medicare and other health benefits, and experience with benefits counseling, community education and outreach, and public speaking.

Internships in GeorgiaCares require prior enrollment as a volunteer, with at least one semester of volunteer service (approximately 2 hours/week) completed before the start of the internship. GeorgiaCares volunteers are provided in-depth training on Medicare giving them the skills they need to conduct community outreach and education events and provide counseling services.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Internship

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program provides support to relative caregiver headed families in six Northeast Georgia counties through services and resources to improve the physical and emotional well-being of intergenerational families. Interns will gain experience in case management, client advocacy, and program development.

Long Term Care Ombudsman Internship

ACCA’s Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCO) works to improve the lives of residents of long-term care facilities in the 25-county east Georgia region. Ombudsman staff and Certified Volunteer Ombudsmen work to resolve complaints on behalf of residents. Ombudsmen visit long-term care facilities routinely to monitor conditions and quality of care., and also provide education regarding long-term care issues, identify long-term care concerns and advocate for needed change.

Students seeking an internship in the LTCO program must first become volunteer visitors for a minimum of six months prior to the internship. Being a volunteer visitor requires a minimum of one time per month facility visit (flexible scheduling) and a monthly meeting with a total monthly commitment of 2-4 hours. This volunteer training provides a solid foundation for the student to be a fully vested member of the LTCO team during their internship.

Meals on Wheels Internship

Each year, ACCA’s Meals on Wheels program serves over 68,000 daily delivered meals to more than 300 older adults and adults with disabilities in Clarke and Barrow Counties. A dedicated group of more than 200 volunteers deliver not only nutritious meals but a friendly visit, safety check, home repairs and a continued connection to the community… making it much more than a meal. Interns play an important role in this program, and gain experience in service provision, needs assessment, compliance monitoring, and volunteer management.

Senior Community Service Employment Program Internship

The Senior Community Service Employment Program offers valuable job training and education to qualified adults age 55+ with barriers to employment. Interns will gain experience in case management, older adult education, and community outreach.

Volunteer Relations Intern

Each year ACCA engages over 1,000 community and student volunteers in service. It is our task to ensure these dedicated individuals have both the tools they need to be successful in their service, and that their experience is meaningful and impactful. Interns will gain experience with program evaluation, including both volunteer and client satisfaction, and planning volunteer training and recognition.
