No Name Newsletter
The first newsletter to come out of the Athens Community Council on Aging was in 1974. This newsletter, for many issues, would remain to be unnamed. These first issues contained information on the staff, events, requests for volunteers, and even testimonials from volunteers. As you can see, the ACCENT has not changed much (besides a little revamping of the design)!
Unnamed Newsletter
After several issues, ACCA still had not come up with a special name, so the official name of the "Unnamed Newsletter" was adopted in Volume 1, Issue 6 (Spring of 1975). The design changed a little, but the content remained the same! Also of note, ACCA was located on S. Hull Street in the Magnolia Senior Center. It would be many years until we would move to our current location.
Magnolia Matters
The newsletter would not remain nameless for long, however. In Volume 2, Issue 2, the newsletter changed names yet again to a more fitting name of Magnolia Matters. Still located at 198 S. Hull Street and under the Magnolia Senior Center, this name fit ACCA's programs much better. The design was even updated to include magnolia leaves!
ACCENT
Finally, in May of 1980, the newsletter settled on a name that would remain for the next 29 years! This first ACCENT featured a new design and many more illustrations than the previous issues had. The ACCENT even began including cartoon strips and a calendar of events! As you can see, the ACCENT Newsletter has had many faces and names, but it has always worked to portray the most up to date information and we hope it remains a staple in your household.
