How can you help GeorgiaCares by volunteering?
GeorgiaCares offers many opportunities to fit the schedule and personalities of volunteers. No prior knowledge or experience of Medicare, Medicaid, or other types of health insurance is necessary. Training is provided!
Medicare Specialist
Assisting individuals that are eligible for Medicare by helping them make informed choices regarding healthcare benefits. Explaining what Medicare is, how it works, and the benefits offered in an unbiased, professional way. Explaining the Medicare Part D prescription drug program, including helping individuals compare and enroll in plans. Assisting clients with filing out applicaitons for extra help and making referrals to other agencies when appropriate. Meeting with clients in the office when asked.
Level of commitment: At least 6 months
Frequency of assignment: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Volunteer
Educating older adults on how to protect themselves from fraud by helping them understand how to protect private health information. Empowering older adults to help detect and report Medicare fraud and provide outreach to the general public on what fraud is and how to report it.
Level of commitment required: At least 6 months
Frequency of assignment: As needed
Community Support Volunteer
Volunteer at health fairs in the community by setting up a table or booth to promote the GeorgiaCares program. Requires interacting with the general public and explaining what our program is about. Requires basic knowledge of Medicare and fraud prevention. Sometimes will require public speaking if asked to give a presentation.
Level of commitment required: 3 - 6 months
Frequency of assignment: As needed
Data Entry and Office Support
Volunteer will assist the coordinator in entering client data into the program database. Copying, filing, and general office work is also needed.
