NIGHT OF LIGHTS HONORS THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel once said, “To live through catastrophe is bad; to forget it is worse.” Americans lived through catastrophe on September 11, 2001 and it changed our nation forever. This year, the Northeast Georgia Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) at the Athens Community Council on Aging invites you to participate in Night of Lights, in remembrance of the 10th anniversary of September 11.
What is Night of Lights? Night of Lights is a unique way to remember this day in our nation’s history. Luminaries are available for a $1 minimum donation at Athens Community Council on Aging and all proceeds go the National September 11 Memorial and Museum Foundation. At 9:00 p.m. on September 11, 2011, our community can light these individual luminaries outside of our homes, businesses, communities, and churches. Together, we will demonstrate our community’s support and recognition of the sacrifices made and lives lost due to this tragedy.
How can I get involved?
- Sponsor a luminary. To reserve your luminary for Night of Lights, please complete the registration form. Luminaries will be available for pick-up at ACCA on September 8 and 9 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Groups can purchase luminaries in bulk, and delivery options may be available upon request.
- Volunteer. Volunteers are needed to pick up donations, assist with packaging and distribution, and promote the event in the community.
- Spread the word. Get your friends and family involved in this initiative! Forward this information to your contacts, or share the event on our Facebook page.
