Fellowship Overview and Requirements

The Athens Community Council on Aging’s Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for retired adult professionals, age 60+, to channel their wealth of experience, wisdom and skills into targeted projects that improve and enrich the community. A Fellowship is a partnership between ACCA and the host organization where the Fellow is placed. Fellows serve in a defined role that delivers significant impact for the organization and community. ACCA will provide orientation training and ongoing technical support and assistance for the Fellow as they serve. Fellows earn a stipend, engage in meaningful work, and develop a new network of contacts and resources for the future.

ACCA and the Meals on Wheels Association of Georgia (MOWAG) are seeking a retired professional, aged 60+ to serve as the Special Projects Fellow. The Fellow will support MOWAG in increasing their Board of Director’s capacity to recruit new members, communicate their message and develop tools for efficient Board management. The ideal candidate is innovative, organized, tech savvy, possesses strong problem-solving skills, has experience in social media management and has worked for or with a national non-profit. The Fellow will work with the Meals on Wheels Association of Georgia Board of Directors and will have support from the Board President and ACCA Staff. The Fellowship requires a commitment of five hours each week with an annual stipend of $4,000 provided.

About The Athens Community Council on Aging: Founded in 1967, the Athens Community Council on Aging is a private, non-profit organization providing services to older adults and adults with disabilities in 26 counties of Northeast Georgia. ACCA’s record of successful program administration and innovative service delivery has made it one of the leading agencies of its type in the Southeast. With the support of volunteers and the community, ACCA provides opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to live and age well.

About the Meals on Wheels Association of Georgia, Inc.: MOWA’s mission is to enhance the ability of meal providers to end senior hunger in Georgia through advocacy, education and collaboration. The purpose of MOWAG is to serve as the principal advocate and leadership organization for Meals on Wheels providers in the state of Georgia. MOWAG strives to provide the highest quality representation, education and training, and services to its members, to enhance their professionalism and the performance of the organizations they represent.

MOWAG is affiliated with the Meals on Wheels Association of America, Inc. for the purposes of strengthening the effectiveness of MOWAG members through education and training, public awareness, national campaigns and partnerships, and other efforts and initiatives of MOWAA.

Essential Responsibilities:

Membership Management

  • Maintain the MOWAG membership database, compile membership data and report on membership information to MOWAG
  • Develop an annual membership plan that uses best practices to identify prospects, and recruit and retain members
  • Implement new membership campaigns

Board Organization

  • Facilitate MOWAG board meetings and perform duties related to the efficient and effective operations of MOWAG within parameters set by the Board Members
  • Create templates for board meeting agendas and meeting minutes
  • Create necessary Board documentation and templates where gaps are identified

Communication Management

  • Develop a communications plan that incorporates a variety of traditional and electronic platforms
  • Create and maintain a website and other communication tools, including: social media, printed promotional materials, and automated email communications

Additional Responsibilities

  • Correspond with appropriate parties regarding the ongoing business of MOWAG
  • Coordinate and manage special events and programs as directed by MOWAG
Essential Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a retired professional, age 60+, that is innovative, organized, tech savvy, has strong problem-solving skills, experience in social media management and has worked for or with a national non-profit. Other requirements include:

  • Experience in membership management and recruitment
  • Experience with graphic design is preferred but not required
  • Experience with board development
  • Comfortable trouble shooting technology issues
Interview and Placement Process & Timeline:
  • We will receive, and review applications through 9/24/2018.
  • We will begin scheduling interviews on 9/25/2018.
  • In-person interviews with the Athens Community Council on Aging will begin on 9/26/18.
  • Finalists will be invited to meet with Meals on Wheels Association of Georgia Board President and the selected candidate will start no later than 10/8/2018.
  • The selected candidate will attend Athens Community Council on Aging agency orientation as well as Meals on Wheels Association of Georgia orientation.
