Do You Use Certain Medical Equipment Paid for by Medicare?

ACCA GeorgiaCaresMedicare is in the process of implementing a new program called DMEPOS Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies. Under the DMEPOS program Medicare awards contacts to companies that compete to become contract suppliers. All contract suppliers must comply with Medicare enrollment rules, be licensed and accredited, and meet financial standards. How does this affect you or a Medicare beneficiary you may know? Individuals enrolled in the Original Medicare program who live in a competitive bidding area will now be required to obtain equipment and supplies only through a contract supplier. Some individuals can stay with non-contracted suppliers if certain conditions are met. Not all areas of the country are included in the new program yet, as it will be phased in over a period of years. To see if you live in a competitive bidding area or for additional questions regarding the program call GeorgiaCares at 1-866-552-4464, Option 4 or send Jessica an email at jbankston@accaging.org.
