The Athens Community Council on Aging was recently awarded the Beverly Littlefield Award in appreciation of their exemplary leadership in the promotion of healthy aging. The award was presented to Jennie Deese, Chief Executive Officer of ACCA, at an awards luncheon in Albany, Georgia on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the 16th Annual Healthy Communities Summit. The award is presented annually by the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services.

“This award was a wonderful surprise for our agency and just goes to show that leaders from all over the state have taken notice of the community partnerships and innovative programming ACCA has developed for our community to keep our citizens living well and aging well,” stated Deese.

Allison Bernal, RD, LD, Chief Nutritionist at the Georgia Division of Aging Services presented the award and highlighted the partnerships ACCA has developed throughout the community including partnerships with health care companies, the University of Georgia’s Office of Service Learning, Campus Kitchens at UGA, UGArden, and those with the Georgia Regents / UGA Medical Partnership to name a few.

Deese went on to say “It is an honor to know that ACCA and our Center for Active Living are models for the rest of the state.
