Senior Day at the Georgia State Capitol

ACCA’s Center for Active Living joined the Georgia Council on Aging and other seniors throughout the state for Senior Day at the Georgia State Capitol last week. This annual event gives citizens a chance to learn about the legislative issues that impact seniors – such as increased funding for Home and Community Based Services like Meals on Wheels – as well as time to meet with local representatives. Our CAL members enjoyed a morning of presentations while our Ambassadors met with Representative Houston Gaines at the Capitol.

What issues are facing older adults in 2019?

At this year’s event, the budget priorities included funding needed for Home and Community Based Services- such as Meals on Wheels and Adult Day Health- and the Aging and Disability Resource Connection, affordable housing for older adults needing help with activities of daily living, legislation to strengthen personal care home regulations, and state funded assistance for Qualified Medicare Beneficiary coverage and assistance to buy Medigap for those who make just over $12,384.
