Top 10 Podcasts for Older Adults – That Aren’t About Health!

Growing older is filled with a variety of experiences, and yet, most content for older adults is focused on health and fitness. These topics are important (and we do cover them at ACCA), but we also believe there is so much MORE involved in aging. Aging and living well means holistically caring for yourself – mentally, physically and socially. So, here are our top 10 podcast recommendations that are engaging and speak to the different parts of your aging journey. Let’s get listening! 

 

1. Living to 100 Club (Human Interest)

“Turning aging on its head.” That’s the motto for the Living to 100 Club podcast with Dr. Joe Casciani. This podcast encourages listeners to change their perspective on aging and find the positives of growing older. Dr. Casciani inspires his audience to age well and live well (sound familiar?) through discussing healthy lifestyles with experts from almost every field. This podcast is inspiring and informational – 100% worth your time.

2. Camp Codger (Advice)

This podcast is produced by older adults for older adults. Camp Codger prides itself on sharing “rocking-chair wisdom from three old guys.” This podcast is for people who are wanting to make the most of their golden years and laugh along their aging adventures (or misadventures). You’ll feel like you’re catching up with old friends as they discuss topics relevant to the “third act” of life.

3. The Perfect Scam (Education)

One of AARP’s weekly podcasts, The Perfect Scam shares stories from people who have been affected by scams and former scam artists. This podcast reveals common tactics and provides tips to protect yourself from these strategies. New episodes are generally released every Friday, and there are over 100 episodes currently available to stream.

4. Lux Radio Theatre (Entertainment)

Get back to the classics. Lux Radio Theatre became one of the most popular radio shows, running from 1934 to 1955. Originally featuring successful Broadway shows, this radio classic was recorded in front of a live studio audience and with a full orchestra. The results were dazzling. This American Life is a public radio show and podcast that focuses on a new theme each week. Every episode shares news but also follows a compelling plot line. Think of these like little creative documentaries — but for radio. 

This American Life has over two million weekly listeners and is broadcast to more than 500 radio stations across the United States.
